Dr Joan Haliburn is a child, adolescent and family Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist with over 30 years’ experience in the private and public psychiatry sector, having trained in Westmead Hospital and Redbank House which is an infant, child and adolescent unit with day/outpatient/inpatient and acute units. Dr Haliburn has worked widely with various psychiatric presentations and problems in this age group and also with young adults. She set up an early intervention program with psychotic adolescents who were then admitted to adult wards, during which time she developed considerable interest and expertise in this area, and in the area of depression and suicidal youth. She is interested in the emotional health of pregnant women, infant/caregiver problems, depression, anxiety disorders particularly Obsessive -Compulsive Spectrum Disorders, Eating Disorders, and is comfortable assessing patients in the age group 0 to 21 years and families. She is a warm, caring and empathic person, with a particular sensitivity to those with mental health difficulties.
