Dr Jan-Paul Kwasik
Dr Jan-Paul Kwasik has over two years experience in various sub-specialities of psychiatry gained during his training in Melbourne, remote Queensland and overseas in London and the UK. Since becoming a Fellow of the College of Psychiatrists in 2017, Dr Kwasik has worked in regional areas of Tasmania and New South Wales, where telehealth assessments were a routine and integral part of his work. Dr Kwasik’s work in Far North Queensland’s Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands has inspired him to work in telepsychiatry to bring more services to populations in need. He has special interests in perinatal mental health, neuropsychiatry, and in transcultural psychiatry particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health. Dr Kwasik is passionate about helping patients and families understand their condition and to make informed choices about biological, psychological and social interventions, in order to improve quality of life, as well as symptom reduction.
Dr Kwasik offers general adult psychiatry for a broad range of mental health conditions such as mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders, and personality/relationship difficulties. Interview and education sessions with partners/family where it improves diagnosis and management. Culturally sensitive interviews, education and management and Clozapine prescribing for treatment resistant psychoses.
